Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How should I prepare for my first appointment?

BEFORE: You will receive your intake forms, Insurance(if applicable), Medical Consent & Privacy (HIPPA) forms via email. Please fill them out and send them back before your appointment.

DURING: Please arrive at time of scheduled appointment, well nourished & hydrated, dressed in loose fitting/ comfortable clothing (ie pants or sleeves that can be rolled up over knees & elbows ).

AFTER: Ideally you will give yourself the opportunity to rest post-treatment. We live in a busy world, so this isn’t always possible, but if you can, try and log off for a bit!

Q: Do you take insurance?

We do not accept insurance. However, we recommend checking with your insurance company to see if you have out-of-network benefits for Acupuncture.  If you have coverage, we can provide you with a superbill to submit for reimbursement.

To inquire about your out of network benefits, contact your insurance company & provide  them with  patient number, located on the back of your card. To get a detailed explanation of your coverage, ask the following:

  • Do I have out-of-network coverage for acupuncture services?

  • Do I have an out-of-network deductible and how much is it?

  • What percentage of the visit is covered?

  • How many visits are covered annually, is there a limit?

  • What ICD-10 ( diagnostic) codes are covered for acupuncture treatments?

  • How do I submit super-bills?

If you have a deductible that must be met prior to coverage kicking in, please note that you are welcome to use flexible spending and health savings account debit cards for services. Note that these pretax accounts are a way to offset out-of-pocket health care spending costs.

Q: What are your rates?

We accept cash, credit card, HSA/ Flex spending at the time of service. Please view the service rates page.

Q: What is your cancellation policy?

Please be so kind as to provide a 24-hour notice to cancel your appointment. Cancellations made after this time period and no-shows will be charged in full.

Q: Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture needles elicit a certain sensation after they are inserted, which is not commonly described as painful. This sensation may be something that you are not used to, but it should not hurt. I will explain all of this to you too, so that you feel comfortable throughout the treatment.

Q: What should I expect for my first treatment?

The initial visit will be around 75 minutes. At this time, you can expect a detailed inquiry to discuss the reason for your visit and health history. In order to formulate an appropriate and customized treatment plan, palpation of the area of complaint, pulse taking, and tongue examination may be performed.

Please anticipate that all future sessions will begin with a discussion to evaluate your progress, so that we may continue to tailor the treatment to your body’s needs.  Follow up appointments are around 1 hour.

Q: How many treatments do I need?

Some people will experience immediate results, while others with more chronic issues may take more time.  The body is a series of layers, with each treatment a new layer is revealed and then healed. The overall duration of treatment varies from person to person and is contingent on the condition, health of the individual and how well they respond to acupuncture.

It is best advised that treatments are received on a weekly basis for the first few weeks. In following weeks, the frequency may be reduced as symptoms dissipate and health is restored.  Generally speaking, you should start to see some changes within 3-5 treatments.
